Olite
- a Historic-Artistic
Site where traces of a Roman and Gothic presence can be found in its walled
enclosure and in the splendour of the medieval court of Carlos III in its
castle-palace. It has two medieval churches: Santa María,
Gothic from the 13th century and which has a beautiful façade and
a magnificent reredos, is situated partly inside the palace, where it was
once the chapel; and San Pedro, the oldest in Olite, with a Romanesque
façade and cloister. It was built during the 12th century and substantially
remodelled in the early 18th century. Only the façade remains of
the original structure. |

Parador
de Olite, Olite, Navarra Province
The hotel occupies part
of a majestic palace-castle that dates back to the 15th Century and has
been declared a National Monument. The communal areas and some of the bedrooms
are within the palace-castle itself, and the remaining rooms are housed
in an annex building. Its stone walls enclose a multitude of features
that enhance the Medieval atmosphere of the building. Stained glass windows,
archways and other typically Medieval elements can still be seen today
inside and on the facade of the palace-castle. Enjoy the delicious
flavour of the local products offered in the Parador’s restaurant - The
brick columns and arches in the restaurant area provide an excellent setting
to enjoy local produce such as asparagus from Navarre, piquillo peppers,
lamb al chilindrón (cooked with tomatoes and peppers) and cod ajoarriero
(with garlic and peppers). |
