	Only seven miles from Palma, Mallorca’s capital, Puigpunyent is a small village dominated by an impressive house called Son Net. Legend has it that the land surrounding Son Net once belonged to a nobleman who had excelled as a pirate in the 12th century, when Mallorca was feared throughout the region for its marauding corsairs. There has been a house on this site for a thousand years, but the present building dates back mainly to the 17th century, when it served as a country retreat for an aristocratic family from Palma. Gran Hotel Son Net has welcomed many famous visitors, ranging from the king and queen of Spain, Lauren Bacall, Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas and the Kennedys. David Stein may have opened a hotel, but Son Net still gives the impression of being a wonderful private house filled with old and new friends.
This old finca dating from 1672, with its beautiful patio and original well, has been restored several times to date. The most recent renovation was completed in June 1998. Natural stone flagged floors and ancient rustic beams are combined with the elegance and traditional interior designed public areas and guestrooms. This not to mention, of course, the impressive centenary oil press converted into a gourmet restaurant. Art lovers will enjoy the remarkable collection of modern paintings in the hotel with original works by artists such a Marc Chagall, Frank Stella, David Hockney, Andy Warhol and others.

Restaurants at the Hotel:
	The L´Orangerie Mallorca offers the best quality products and service all based on traditional Mallorcan cuisine. Fresh market products, Mediterranean ingredients and herbs masterly are combined to make exquisitely prepared and beautifully presented dishes to please even the most demanding palates. L´Orangerie´s exclusive wine list has a fantastic selection of Mallorcan, Spanish and European wines. The setting is very unique: the huge original olive press of Son Net has been refurbished and, after several centuries, it is at last able to produce olive oil again, although it is not being used for production.
Gazebo Grill In the summer, the poolside Gazebo restaurant offers freshly grilled dishes prepared in an old stone oven served in an informal setting. We prepare the best fresh products of the island: grilled meat, fish and seafood, pasta, a fabulous salad buffet all served in an enchanting spot with spectacular views of the valley of Puigpunyent.

Bar & Brunch The Bar Son Net lounges have a large range of art and antique furniture, a cosy fireplace, views of the patio and the valley of Puigpunyent. Don’t forget to ask for a superb cocktail masterly prepared by our barman, while you enjoy the soothing music selected for the occasion. In the summer, the bar also includes open-air terraces. Tea time is served every afternoon in our fireplace lounge during the fall, winter and spring season. A wide selection of teas, scones, muffins, plum cakes, fruit cakes and finger sandwiches make it a complete feast. Under the shade of a five hundred year old cyprus tree the pool bar El Mirador invites you to enjoy tropical milkshakes and ice creams. For those who love the peace and comfort of their guest-room, the delicious menu of our 24-hour-Room service is another option. Every Sunday a Buffet Brunch is served in our Restaurant. It is a gastronomic journey with exquisite dishes that reflect Mallorcan, Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine. How to get there FROM PALMA AIRPORT TO GRAN HOTEL SON NET Take PM19 direction to Palma. After approximately 5 km take the PM20 "Via de Cintura" (direction Andratx). Exit PM20 at the sign Puigpunyent and keep to the right until you reach the roundabout with a petrol station "Cepsa". Cross the roundabout following the sign marked Puigpunyent. Stay on this road for 11 Km. You will come to a Stop sign at a junction once you have reached Puigpunyent, continue straight ahead and you will arrive at Gran Hotel Son Net.

For many tourists sun and beach holidays are at the top of their list of preferences. However, travellers haven't always been this keen on sunbathing and swimming. The first tourists who visited the island swam very little indeed. George Sand and her companion, composer Frederic Chopin, spent the winter of 1838-1839 on the island to help him recover his fragile health. And the Archduke Luis Salvador, who first came some ten years later, at the age of 22, remained faithful to the island, winter and summer, until the day he died in 1915. According to the writings of these distinguished visitors they never got bored during their stays on the island of Mallorca.
