ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA RURAL ACCOMMODATION
|
|
Arcos de la Frontera
- ...of more substantial interest than Zahara de la Sierra, and a better
place to break the journey, is ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA. This was taken from
the Moors in 1264, over two centuries before Zahara fell - an impressive
feat, for it stands high above the Río Guadalete on a double crag
and must have been a wretchedly impregnable fortress. This dramatic location,
enhanced by low, white houses and fine sandstone churches, gives the town
a similar feel and appearance to Ronda - only Arcos is poorer and, quite
unjustifiably, far less visited. The streets of the town, despite particularly
manic packs of local bikers, are if anything more interesting, with their
mix of Moorish and Renaissance buildings. At the heart is the Plaza del
Cabildo, easily reached by following the signs for the parador , which
occupies one side of it. Flanking another two sides are the castle walls
and the large Gothic-Mudéjar church of Santa María de la
Asunción; the last side is left open, offering plunging views to
the river valley. |

Casa
Campana. Bed & Breakfast, Arcos de la Frontera
Located
right in the heart of Arcos de la Frontera's historic Old Quarter, next
to a beautiful chapel. You'll feel a strong sense of history when you stay
with us - as if you are stepping back in time. The house is more than 500
years old. Outside in the narrow streets are monuments and whitewashed
houses which have stood for centuries. Our spacious, rustic guest apartment
stretches across the first floor of the house, with views onto the narrow
street below. It's comfortable and private. We also have two private en
suite guest rooms in their own independent units on the roof terrace. They
are similar in size, also rustic in style. |

conditioning/heating and fully equipped bathrooms with hair dryer and welcoming

La
Casa Grande, Charming Hotel, Arcos de la Frontera
La
Casa Grande, a splendid 18th century mansion built in 1729, dominates the
views over a vast plain and the mountains of Sierra de Cadiz from its setting
at the cliff's edge in Arcos de la Frontera. Its present owners have transformed
this old palace into a quiet guest house, maintaining all its personality
and rustic spirit (original terracota floors, ancient wooden beams, stone
columns, hand-woven bedspreads and carpets and whitewashed walls) without
compromising in comfort (ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning, TV and phone). |

Parador
de Arcos de la Frontera, Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz

in Andalusian style, some even have a tiled stone-seat. Some rooms have
a terrace with views to the river and the rest to the main square or the
town church. All of them are fully equipped including full bathroom.
The restaurant is a large room with wide windows overlooking the river.
It features wooden beams, white arches, typical lanterns, solid wooden
chairs and tables covered by white tablecloths. In a friendly atmosphere
the restaurant offers the characteristic dishes of the Sierra region, the
